The incidence of congenital heart diseases is 1% in normal deliveries. They are found in newborns or even asymptomatic adults. Certain types of congenital heart diseases must be treated without delay in early childhood. Other disease types are asymptomatic, and treatments can be postponed until later.

The most common congenital heart diseases are atrial septal defect (a defect in the wall separating the right and the left upper heart chambers), ventricular septal defect (a defect in the wall separating the right and the left lower heart chambers), faulty interconnection of blood vessels, and many other condtions which can be surgically corrected.

Pediatric cardiologists carry out initial evaluations and give recommendations for proper treatment.

At Bangkok Heart Hospital, there are experienced pediatric cardiac surgeons ready to serve patients with congenital heart diseases.
